In the description of my invisibilty talent, Darkest Light, it says that I should take off my light-source, or I will still be easily spotted.
However, while I'm wearing Burning Star, or Summertide Phial (and some gear that does give -2 to light radius), my invisibilty still works like a charm.
How exactly does light influence invisibilty? Is the light radius value plainly extracted from the invisibility value? If that's the case, I can understand the light having no noticable effect. Darkest Light gives me 30+ invisibilty. The few points of light wouldn't really matter there.

Re: Light source and invisibility
If you have a light radius of greater than 0 - you are spotted as there is light that is moving. As long as you have 0 or [effectively 0 as negative light radius doesn't technically exist] - you are okay.

Well, you may be "spotted" but it doesn't seem to do much in game, regardless of your light level. I never worry about mixing lights and invisibility.
Re: Light source and invisibility
Indeed. That's why I made this post. Being spotted does absolutely nothing. Even though my total light value would be 3 or 4, even with that piece of equipment that reduces it, my invisibilty keeps sustained, and I am never targeted until the spell runs out.Grey wrote:Well, you may be "spotted" but it doesn't seem to do much in game, regardless of your light level. On a side note: invisibilty runes seem rather underpowered (at the values I have seen them so far) compared to Darkest Light.
I see runes vary between 8-15 invisibility power. Darkest Light maxed gives me 35+, and rising as I keep rising my Cunning.
None of the Blood mages and other vile orcs I encountered in a Pride could see me.
Re: Light source and invisibility
See the other invisibility thread, the one about adding more see invis to critters. In a general sense, power one invisibility is just as useful in most cases and just as useless in others as power thirty (or more, up 'till you're somewhere over 100 point invis).
The runes are considerably lower power than any of the invisibility granting powers, this is true. It just doesn't really matter that they're weak, because 'any' is enough against most foes, and you're probably not going to be able to get enough to matter against the rest.
Probably be hilarious if the runes were changed to 100+ power, though. Might make 'em worth being a charge eating rune, then

Re: Light source and invisibility
Honestly, I don't think that charge-eating runes should stay. Like wands, they just don't seem to fit into the game's gameplay -- like traps, they feel like something that was left behind when the game changed, and just haven't been adjusted yet because nobody knows what to turn them into.
Re: Light source and invisibility
What about stealth? Is it affected by light? I am getting spotted regularly with my stealth of 3/5. But this is always in the "lit" dungeons if that matters. This is my first rogue
Re: Light source and invisibility
Near as I've been able to tell, stealth isn't affected by your light radius. This is primarily because stealth itself has a -1k light radius component, similar to a particular artifact light, so while it's active you don't have any light, anyway.
Even with 5/5 stealth you get spotted fairly often, but the amount it happens lessens the higher your cunning gets. Loading up on any +stealth kit you find is a pretty good idea, of course.
