What happened to mushroom?

#1 Post by Nyx »

I've loaded up 30 and 31 and I only see options for Custom, Shockbolt, and ASCII :( Is something weird going on my machine or did we axe the other tileset D:

It was disabled because DarkGod felt it was too incomplete to be effectively playable. There's been talk of bringing it back as an option, and there's another tileset that's being developed too.

You can use it, select custom and enter "mushroom", no special option. But yes it's really broken :/

oh thank god. I know it's incomplete but I like what's there a lot more than shockbolt, and ASCII isn't right either :D

I do too, I like simplicity and clarity in tilesets, and it delivered better than Shockbolt (not simple) or ASCII (not clear).

Huh... I gave up on finishing it when shockbolt made his. I liked his better so I figured everyone else did too  maybe I'll get back into it.

Seconding the fact that I liked Mushroom more than Shockbolt.

(I also sort of like having @ for my character even when everything else is graphics, though that might just be me.)

Right on the top of te4.org it says "Topdown tactical RPG roguelike game and game engine". Shockbolt's tiles are isometric, not topdown. I find it really hard to navigate without a topdown view.

I don't think Shockbolt would be considered isometric (isometric tiles would require an entirely new engine), but yeah, they certainly aren't top-down. This really only bothers me with that one tree tile that more or less rests on the tile above it, and some of the mountain tiles.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

Does anyone like those tree tiles? They seem incredibly frustrating, since they make it hard to tell where you can walk, and frequently obscure health bars and the like.

If for one love Shockbolt's tiles, but yeah some of the trees can be frustrating because there will be a path through them, but won't appear to be. That's really the only issue I have with them, though.

Yeah, I have to agree. Shockbolt does some amazing artistry, but some of his stuff be impractical.
