Killed the Bone Giant with Channel Staff ( darkness ), Throw Bomb and Golem with iron greatmaul of paradox.
The bomb fire damage over time is displayed last, under the kill message and quest updates in the log. My level was ~3.35 after the boss, should have been somewhere over 5 I think. Loot did drop.

The log says you damaged the HFBG last? I've noticed if something gets damaged with a fire trap first and you add to the burning damage, it says something like "Fire trap damages x for y fire damage" and you don't get experience for things killed from that, because it was a trap in the level that did the initial fireburn damage. Also, I've noticed the "X kills y!" message happens before the last damage dealt, so you may wish to see what the message said about who killed the HFBG.

This is weird as you're supposed to get exp EVERY time a boss dies on the level...

I think the damage before the kill message was channel staff with shadow damage.
The fire damage in the end always was from me according to the log.
