Escape from Reknor changes
Make Escape from Reknor one level longer, to allow fighting the boss with level four talents (and at a higher level). It currently can be impossible (or at least well beyond my abilities) to beat him with a Dwarf Cursed without good drops. Would be even worse if you had dropped to 0 hate.
Re: Escape from Reknor changes
He can be a pretty tough fight, two things that have helped me...
Pillar Dance and keep the cannon fod.. I mean your dwarf buddy alive at least to the final fight to soak up some damage.

Re: Escape from Reknor changes
Tried everything I could think of, here were my problems:
- Pillar dancing didn't work well, as he was as fast as me, as well as there being traps generated around the pillars
- had 9 Hate going in, so that wasn't the issue (but it prevented me from checking back on the other levels for items)
- Norgan rushed ahead, and was targeted, preventing me from drawing Brotoq across him for damage.
- I didn't have enough accuracy to hit with anything approaching consistency (5 more than his def)
- I had good Wild infusions (two, both with disease, one of which had magical as well) but they didn't help nearly enough.
- I had very poor equipment. My weapon was a cursed (-2 cunning) Flaming Iron Battleaxe, and my only other find was a +resource leech hat.
As far as I could tell there was nothing in my build or tactics I could have changed to win (after savescumming about a dozen tries), other than stairscumming one or two hits at a time after sacrificing Norgan (and losing all of my Hate). This death was not a learning experience, it was nothing more than a sacrifice to the RNG in the hope that the next one has a chance.

Re: Escape from Reknor changes
Killing bartoq with a dwarf cursed basically boils down to this: Hit him with ruined cut. Hit him with ruined cut again. Hit him with ruined cut once more. Maybe heal now. Return to hitting with ruined cut. You either smack 'im or walk around and let Nogry take hits while ruined cut is cooling down, or pillar dance just to cut down on the damage he deals while RC's getting ready again.
Your generic points up 'till then go into combat accuracy, and anywhere from one to two points into ruined cut. The rest into whatever, as it won't really matter. Ruined cut will kill him (and every other first tier dungeon boss, and most of the second tier ones).
Seriously, RC walks all over every other first tier melee talent a cursed has and most of the second tier ones. Get it, use it, yeh?
If accuracy is seriously worrying you, throw some points into dex, too. It won't hurt terribly much.

Re: Escape from Reknor changes
I was dying too fast for melee to be an option most of the time. One hit of rend took about half of my health, and his normal attacks are powerful as well.
Re: Escape from Reknor changes
Finding armor was how I beat him, or so it seemed. Brotoq is really a pain. HIs diseases are enough to make health recovery a zero-sum game, and occasionally Norgan just gets absolutely wrecked. But I have beaten him with a Cursed, at least twice.
Reaver, on the other hand? I have no idea how to beat Brotoq with a dwarf Reaver. You simply don't have enough melee damage, not to mention that Brotoq is basically better at doing anything you could possibly do. I think I'll just wait until I unlock ghoul to play Reaver again...

Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
Re: Escape from Reknor changes
I've beaten him with a Cursed a couple of times as well, but got a worse setup this time.

I managed to beat him with a Dwarf Reaver by running away and casting drain whenever I could. After defeating Brotoq the rest of the early game is easy.bricks wrote: Reaver, on the other hand? Re: Escape from Reknor changes
Yeah, Brotoq is brutal for any non-fighter class if the gear that drops on the previous 2 levels was bad. But he's only the first boss, so you can easily make another character and hope the drops are better.
