b30 Phase door

#1 Post by Tom »

The third time in a row it did not work I started to wonder.
Now, after 5 times in a row I did not move by a Phase Door, Im curious.

All the times I was in a vault in Kor Pul.
Is something changed here?
Do they no longer work inside a vault?
Or is it something like they fail if they place the player somewhere else inside the vault?

Tom

EDIT: Last game was very frustrating as I managed to save 3 good escorts. 2 Troll mire and one in Kor Pul 1 where the game ended by the PD that did not move me.

Some vaults have a noteleport flag, yes. There's a directory which contains all the vault maps, and they will show (in the file) whether or not you can teleport out of them. General rule of thumb, all vaults don't. Some do, but the point of the vault is that you opened it up, you deal with the consequences. If you need to get away, walk back out if you can, you can PD around when you're out of the vault.
Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?

Then the PD should not be green.
To have escape items that do not work, when they do show as they should work, is very bad.
This is the same thing as inside an iceblock. If the item shows green, they should work.

Tom, was the vault very large? The "no_teleport" flag means you can't teleport (or phase door) into that tile. You may still teleport from that tile provided there is a possible place to teleport to. If you are in a large vault or in a vault embedded in solid wall, there may not be a tile to teleport to.

Standard Kor Pul vault.
Not with the four mages greeting you, or the one with 2 traps surrounding the door(s) with the skeleton champion, but the one with one room and an enemy, then paralell 2 rooms without enemies etc etc
From the second rooms there are two one tile rooms with enemies.
In at least 2 of theese scenarios there were snakes, and vault snakes in Kor Pul are VERY dangerous for low lvl characters.
So I tried to Phase Door, and it went *poff* around my @, but he didnt move away, and was killed (snakes are fast).

Ah my bad. Keep forgetting what the noteleport flag does... but yeah, PD's usefulness in that particular vault is minimal at best because of the zig-zag way to get from the innermost door in the thing (and how PD "teleports" you to the square you're already in if the tile it chooses is a wall), to the vault exit. Old PD spell that had a 1x3 grid for where you could deposit yourself was much better. But heh, that vault is the vault I don't go exploring with characters that're being... difficult to play with. Sounds like you're just getting really bad luck with what you're getting. Maybe the next one you find in there will have a bunch of molds, you never know. Main reason I avoid this vault (circle vault) with weaker characters is because the monsters are 17-20+ levels bigger than me. You CAN use PD in here, but I really wouldn't recommend it. Against snakes, have wild and movement infusions handy. Against molds, giggle maliciously and do whatever you want to them.
