(b28) Amulet of mastery bug/idea

#1 Post by Hedrachi »

As my archmage I ran across a steel amulet of mastery for ( Chronomancy / Other ). Spacetime Tuning has no spendable points, you start out with it as a PM/TW and is AFAIK the only talent in Chronomancy / Other. Could amulets of mastery have some sort of check in them, to stop useless talent masteries from being used?

I still think mastery amulets need scrapped and replaced with more interesting egos, like the ones that give +healing mod and +Aegis mastery.

Posted a similar idea here. although I included many different trees in one amulet as well to reduce the effective rarity of them.

They already do: "allow_random" in the talent tree definition. I view this as a feature, though: "Mastery of Earthen Vines? Who in Eyal uses this?!"

What's the issue with having amulets of mastery? Do you find them too weak? Do you find them uninteresting?

Personally, I think they can be great if you find the right one for your character. I believe a good voratun amulet of mastery can give you a +0.6 mastery bonus, but these seem to be quite rare. How could you complain about that?! Even so, perhaps the mastery amount could be buffed just a little...

Useful amulets of mastery are extremely rare. In half a dozen or so level 50 characters, and many others that died sooner, I have found around three or four amulets that boost skills that I had. They are powerful, but not to the point that having their rarity spread out over 118 (?) talent trees makes their rarity and power balanced IMO.

I wouldn't mind having some additional egos or artifacts such as what you suggested in the other topic, lukep, and like what you suggested, Grey. I think DarkGod is always looking for ways to make the game more interesting and fun :D

There are many new egos in the upcoming beta29 to "ooh" and "ah" over--or criticize--so I don't think it's worth getting worked up over amulets of mastery right now. Yes, they can be good; yes, they can be worthless; and yes, finding the one you want can be rather unlikely. This isn't so different from other egos, imho. Having just the right amulet of mastery for just the right character build can be extremely powerful. When I played a stealthy rogue, I really wanted to find an amulet of stealth mastery +0.4 so I would have 100% not to break stealth via "Unseen Actions", but, alas, it wasn't meant to be. Which is fine. A player shouldn't be able to plan the character's build and gear a priori and be virtually assured of finding all the desired gear. The game would be more boring (or feel like work) if one could do that.

Final thought: At the very least, talent mastery improvement is a really cool and interesting ego to include in randarts. Agreed?

Inevitably some amulets of mastery are going to be used, especially when they come with a greater ego prefix. Was just pointing out that a Chronomancy / Other mastery amulet is completely, totally useless: A) Spacetime Tuning is the only power which is in this tree, and B) Spacetime Tuning has no spendable points, and the only talent level stuff it takes into consideration is the raw talent level of Static History, in another tree.. and again, the raw, not effective level, which amulets of mastery change.
