Enchantment stripping service

#1 Post by lukep »

Have a service available to remove egos from an item. It would cost about 2x the difference in price between the ego item and its base, and leave you with a white item. This would make the Crystal Focus, ring enchantment, and Limmir's quest much more accessible.

Yes though one of the obvious places to offer it - zigur - can make antimagic even more viable option. Though for them I'd like to see a way of removing the only the magical part of an item, leaving the natural properties there. Especially as randarts now have 3 egos, the odds of having a pure natural one is smaller. Admittedly I am not so familiar with the item generation code to know if there is provision for that.

This has been brought up for over a year, and it still isn't implemented. So, come up with a more concrete way to go about it/story arc for it, and it might have a chance. :)

Hrm....

"Maelo, the thief"
Player encounters Maelo, a halfling street urchin in Last Hope. Maelo will not move from whatever randomly generated position he starts at, but will actively attempt to steal non plot items in the player's inventory. Based off of cunning and dexterity, there is a chance the player will catch Maelo in the act. If the player chats with Maelo then, the dialog is:
Maelo: *the halfling looks around nervously and gulps* Yes, good (race name)?
Player: (only option) Give it back. Now.
(new screen)
Maelo: Oh, er.... I'm sorry, sir. I really can't.
Player: [attack]
Player: ... wha? Explain yourself, before I call the city guards!
(if player chose the second option, new screen. Otherwise Maelo fights, and has the item he stole from the player, and maybe one or two other items as well.)
Maelo: Yes, er.. while I am a thief, sir, I made the mistake of stealing from some stodgy old archmage from Angolwen. It's my gloves Sir, they're cursed. I must forever steal from any who walk by me no matter what I think of their ability to catch me. If I could get these gloves off, I swear I'll never steal again! Not after what I've been through this past week. They also keep me from returning anything I stole.
Player: I see. I think I may know of a way to help you. I shall return shortly.
The player then has the option of either going to Zigur or Angolwen. If the player chooses to go to Zigur, Spell-killer Nadrun believes he can remove the curse from the halfling's gloves, but to do so, he'll need some bone dragon dust. A cave-styled dungeon is revealed on the map somewhere, filled with undead. There'd be a necromancer boss, and when he dies the bone dragon appears and attacks. Bone dragon would have light and nature vulnerability but darkness and blight resistance or immunity. Dust acquired on the death of the dragon, and Nadrun can now remove arcane powered egos from items, with a small chance of failure: 10% from green, 20% from blue, 30% from purple, and 50% from randart. Based on luck, failure has a chance to either turn item white (if low) or not work that one time (if high). On removal of arcane effects from randarts, there is a 5% chance per arcane effect remove, to add a random non-arcane effect to replace the one removed.

If the player went to Angolwen, Archmage Tarelion will want his signet ring back. Player goes back to LH to wrest the ring from Maelo, but finds out that a necromancer stole the ring from Maelo. Same fight as above, but the necromancer will drop the ring instead. The ring is a nice spellcasting ring (+Mag, +Cun, +Wil, +5% all damage, +10% arcane damage, maybe some spell crit or spellpower thrown in too). Player can then choose to forget completing the quest for Angolwen and keep the very nice ring, or can turn it in and have Tarelion or someone else randomise the egos on items with the same failure chance listed above. (It would count the number and quality of egos on items, and apply the same number and quality (green, etc) of egos.)

In either completion case, Maelo is summoned adjacent to the player and the quest person, thanks the player for removing the curse, drops the stolen item, and is de-spawned.
Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?
