Things I don't miss

#1 Post by Grey »

I was reading through some older threads from when I started posting (around b12) and I've been thinking of some things that I really don't miss, some of which I thought I would:

- potions and scrolls
- item destruction
- fiddly identification system
- old-style stun (except for my rogues)
- old orc patrols
- separate weapon skills for each weapon type
- non-automatic stealth
- encountering the crypt at level 20
- set boss artifact drops (boooring)
- the cunning/packing tree

I'm tempted to include "Middle Earth" on the list, but I must admit that I do miss the excitement of going to Moria. There's something special about that place and Reknor just don't cut it... Still, it's cool to now have the artistic freedom to explore much wider concepts in the game.

Anyway, is there other stuff people don't miss? It need not be something you're glad is gone, but instead something that clearly the game is just fine without.

Grey, you covered a lot of mine. Here are some more:

Five-level starting dungeons
Constantly restocking stores
The need to haul loads of stuff around to sell, though I'm still annoyed at having to do this until I get the Transmogrification Chest.
Armor that behaved like physical resistance
Picky apprentice mage
Charged equipment

Ooh, I forgot about charges equipment... and really basic egos that affected very little.

I'm glad corruptors start with drain rather than blood sacrifice. Also I don't miss when classes did not have their own racial tree (so many negatives...)

How can anyone forget mass quantities of baby dragons on open levels?

Oh man, I'd mentally blocked that one out...

Don't forget the breaths from the wyrms that summoned the drakes, and the drakes that summoned the hatchlings on that one... and I'd blocked that out too... almost as "fun" as dealing with brittle oozes.
Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?

Hmm, I agree with all of these, though some store restocking would be nice...
