Assasin Lord

#1 Post by Tom »

Hello!

I try to avoid walking around in the beginning to avoid having this task to early on.
But around lvl 9 or 10 I have to go to Old Forest and there it comes. :(

If I 'leave', will it pop up again?

How do I save the merchant?
Im playing a rouge.

I actually managed once, by in stealth dirty fight one of the blue thieves.
The rest including the boss came running and I managed to kill them all and the merchant was still standing alive.

Alas, this trick 'always' fails when I try it again.
The merchant is not there after I fought the bad guys in the SW corner.

I once ran up between the houses and he was standing in his usual place, but when he saw me he did
-: CHAAAARRRGE!!! towards the thieves (I bet he also used a movement infusion rune as he was almost in two moves fighting the assasin lord and got killed ofcourse).

So PLS spoil me.
How can I have a reasonable chance to finish this little annoying task with the merchant alive.

Step 1: start in the right position.

When engaging the lord engage him from the north west. Assuming the top of the screen is north.

This makes everyone target you instead of him. Leaving you tofinish them.

It may be hard but my lvl 4 brawler did it. Admittedly he had a lot of +life items so hp wasabove 200.

After that just run to cooldown your regen infusion. The boss is possibly the easiest to take down because if his lack of regen infusion. In fact I think he has none. Then you gain enough lvls to take thr rest out without problems.

I've had serious problems with this. Whenever I tried, the merchant would run around me to the North, attack the assassin behind you, draw its fire, and die. My strategy was to immediately attack the first thief (nearest the entrance), it will target pass you to all of the others, and you can fight/run around the two western rooms without alerting the merchant at all. The corners around the buildings should let you activate stealth, and they will be following behind you for traps. This works much better if you are faster (movement speed) than them.

It's important to keep an eye on who is targeting whom. If you see someone deciding to go for the merchant then rush over and snuff him out. Can be a bit dangerous of course. Another problem is to avoid breaking LOS suddenly with phase door and the like, since the thieves will forget about you and go for the merchant instead. Also watch out in case the fool steps on a summons trap and gets himself surrounded.

How to get the "Rescuer of the Lost": almost 100% guaranteed

1. The Merchant is trying, desperately, to talk to you. To avoid this, just talk to the Merchant BEFORE engaging the bandits.

2. If you trigger an alarm, you can kill this pack, but do not touch the other ones before talking with the Merchant.

3. Open the door of the room near, southwest, the chief bandit.

4. After talking to the Merchant, either talk and attack, or just attack, the chief bandit and get all bandits target you.

5. Now run and hide in the room, guarding the door, fighting one bandit at a time.

6. Kill all bandits, the Merchant will be sound and safe in his initial position.

It should be noted that, as a rogue, you actually get a special reward for siding with the Assassin Lord against the merchant, so consider going that route instead.

Thx, Ill try that route this game.

My problem now though, is to get the assasine quest.
I tried a ELF ROGUE, just one try, to kill Mr Z.
But now I am lvl 17 and I never get the quest.

As hobbit, the darn quest opens up to fast.

Is there a cap on the quest or some silly 'will never show up on an elf' thing?

I think there is a top cap... lvl 15 I think...

but Dg's now changed it that it only appears in certain areas... here that is, no idea, but I got it in the ice.

I re-checked this today: in newer betas you can still wait to trigger the encounter until at least level 25, probably even later; you can even do the Crypt before the Tunnels! Meanwhile, the AL has his level capped at 23 (usually he's about 5 levels above the player). Makes it trivial to beat with characters whose early game performance against rogues is less than ideal (*cough* wyrmic *cough*)

The AL does over 50 nature damage to me per turn at level 11, poison DoT not included. And a summoning trap on the previous floor instakilled me.

The shadowblade buff didn't do high armor, low dex classes any favors either.
