Out-of-Level Enemies

#1 Post by thehiddenones »

I recently ran into a level 23 Elvish Cultist on level three of the Rhaloren Camp. After handily wiping the floor with the boss (whose AI is a bit odd), I went into the room directly to the right of the boss room and straight into said cultist, who cast dark portal on me. Things did not end well. I have run into a similar issue with level 22~23 Elven (always Elven characters, the standard ones for the area, asides from the cultists) in the vaults in the same dungeon.

Heh, I was wondering if this was intended or not. I know in old versions of ToME, it wasn't rare to encounter 5-10 enemies twice your level, especially in vaults. It's fun for all of 1 turn until you get "infinistuned", die, use your Elixer of Life, just to be put right back where you were to be "infinistuned" and die again for good.

I just thought I would mention that this may be completely intended. But for level 20+ to be on level 3 is pretty harsh, especially with those dang elves. Elves always seem like much harder enemies than any others, especially the Cultists and Corruptors. Cheaters, the lot of them!

Don't forget the blood mages, too! :)

That cultist in the Rhaloren Camp has appeared for me, too. I'm not sure if it's every time or random... I'll keep an eye out next time through.

Yes it is a bug, although I dont understand why yet, starting zones are normaly prevented from any OOD npcs.

At which (player) level did you enter the zone ?

Almost certainly the same as http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25559

Did the elven cultist appear inside the Inquisitor's area?

Way OOD monster sighting: lvl 33 Eternal Bone Giant on level 2 of the ruined halfling compound (where subject Z is). Wandering around the main level, not in a vault. The other enemies in the dungeon are about lvl 10.

That can happen, only the starting zones are OOD protected (well should be since it seems to still happen)

Hmmmm, maybe it's also worth pointing out that in the yeek starting area, the ritch tunnels can spawn level 25ish ritch larva and level 35ish ritch hive mothers. I wasn't sure if it is a bug or not, and it happens early enough it's hardly an inconvenience. It seems to be fairly common, I'll get such a room about 2/3rds of the time on at least one of the 3 levels.
