Door to the Past can ruin a character

#1 Post by Flare »

Door to the Past is a sustained spell which raises your paradox. Leave it going, and you can easily reach 100% failure rate. At that point you cannot cast Revision to end the spell, and you cannot cast Door to the Past to break the sustain. None of your other chronomancy spells work (including Body Reversion or Energy Decomposition, either of which might have terminated the spell). The only way to turn off DttP is a suicidal run into a creature that can break sustains. In short, Door to the Past can turn a good Paradox Mage into an escort.

The preferred fix would be to ensure that sustains can always be deactivated.

(The other way to turn off DttP is to force quit ToME, which saved my character.)

Disabling failure checks on sustains would be fine. Darkgod when you get back...

line 1807 in actor should be changed too

Code: Select all

if (ab.paradox) and not fake then
