B24, Ritches Tunnel, the Hive Mother, unexpected behaviour

#1 Post by madmonk »

I came across the Hive Mother on Level 3 - I am not sure if this is a bug and she should appear later on? I was level 3 Archmage at the time.

She proceeded to perform a Drunkards Walk, never hit me or threw a spell at me or anything and eventually died. Nice!

Is this a bug? It was certainly some weird behaviour!

Drunkards walk: She probably follows the same AI that other bosses use - very annoying when you hit them so hard they go "EEEEEEEK!" and run away for a few turns, then try to come back until you hit them again. Even had Urkel... URKIS, dangnabit doing that til he froze me and turned me into a very shocked Anorithil.

Probably not a bug then...

What about appearing on level 3?

Are you sure you are not on svn ?
[tome] joylove: You can't just release an expansion like one would release a Kraken XD

The Drunkard's Walk AI behavior was reported in ingame chat the other night. Someone doing the paradox mage unlock saw it happen.

The drunk walk happens every the time in the arena. Once the gladiator gets down to about half health, he can't decide whether to run away or attack, and becomes easy pickings. The slinger might be doing it, but on the slinger it looks like he is trying to get to mid-range. The arcane blade backs into a corner when injured, which is kind of reasonable even if it isn't the most effective tactic. It's just the gladiator that suffers from it.

Since bosses are intended to have inordinate amounts of health, maybe change their AIs to not use defense infusions/runes until they're at half health? Would also benefit to check and see if they'll use runes/infusions if they already have rune/infusion saturation, don't think I've seen them do it. If they're assigned randomly atm, maybe force bosses to have 5 runes/infusions? Otherwise, get a standard boss set, like shield/shield/regen/wild/offense rune or IP infusion. They gonna die anyway if they're always kicking in the drunk-walk routine.
