I have a fresh Debian 6.0 with no DE, installed not much ago. ToME4 lags hard. I have a GeForce 7600GT video card. May be i should install some packages? btw i have mesa-utils, libsdl-mixer1.2 and libsdl-image1.2 installed already.

Mesa is probably the problem, ToME uses opengl for rendering. You need to correctly configure a driver for your gforce card (usually the nvidia provided driver is great).

"glxinfo" should say you're rendering using nvidia, not mesa

Another issue with Debian is that your user account needs to be in the 'video' group in order to access the direct rendering devices. As far as NVidia proprietary drivers go, I have relatively little experience with them, since I have an old Radeon card myself.

If anyone interested, to make ToME work on Debian + Nvidia, do as it said on: http://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
Everything works fine on my Debian Testing with proprietary Nvidia drivers as of May 2011

3. How good is your computer compared to modern standards? (crap, okay, good, very good - choose as you feel appropriate, or give CPU/Gfx card/RAM specs if you feel like it)

1. Yes! And oddly, it seems to mostly be in the new starting areas, and Daikara (With them crazy clouds)

2. XP Professional 32bit

3. Its Okay.

Installing now on a windows 7 professional 32bit computer thats 5 months old to see how it runs.
