Rework infravision

#1 Post by Canderel »

Infravision is cool, as it typically has fairly long range. The problem is that you almost have to combine it with sun or summertide phail to effectively explore the "walls"... Can we have it explore walls too? It'll make life more hassle free for stealth classes. (though they'll still miss items, but if you let item show, then who'd want a lite radius?)...

Infravision already supplies light radius when you a) Have enough of it and b) have no light radius via kit. B may be wrong, heh. Take off your light, or get one of the 0 radius ones -- or find the heart, of course -- wear a sneakthief or two, whatever. You'll get light at a rate of about 1 radius per 4 infravision, iirc.

You can semi-easily achieve an infravision radius of greater than 30 - which will give you a visible light radius of 7 - wich is about where 'real light' stops ... But - you see 23 tiles further than if you were using 'real light' - so infravision is fine. If you want to be a know-it-all about npc location, you go infravision. If you are more worried about your positioning, you go 'real light'.

So lemme get this straight. A high enough infravision gives you lite radius? Ie I have no light source (stealth is on) but if I have infravision of let's say 12 the game will look as though I have a light source 2 radius?

Infravision gives a lite radius of 1 for every 4 points of it you have (rounded down).

So at 4 you get 1, at 8 you get 2, etc. etc.

This is lite radius that does not stack with other light sources. It's basically your ability to 'see' in the dark.

In other words, Infravision/Heightened Senses does what your suggesting it do to a limited degree. You can sense monsters out to it's range and you can sense everything else out to it's range/4.
