1st impressions, Thoughts, Ideas ++

#1 Post by faustgeist »

Greetings all,

As a long time roguelike gamer (focused on Zangband & Angband TK). I am very happy to have found Tome 4. I salute you developers, testers, and fans alike!

Here are a few personal observations:

I fall into the gear camp.. I love it... and seek it out on dungeon floors, in shops, and in the purses of monsters everywhere I go. So naturally, I would like to see things like a gambling hall (for $), well stocked stores and loot rich dungeons. I have yet to see and would LOVE to see a scalable option during character generation to enrich the world for each different character. I admire 'one-life' players, but don't fall into that camp. I prefer the Adventure setting... consequently, I would think that a scalable loot system or scalable named-monster encounter system (to guarantee much more randomly generated elites ++) would not anger more serious players as they could choose to be as austere as they desire. While the artifact crazed like me could 'spoil' the game with tons more items.. making it easier?... perhaps... but as long as it is fun.. the game is doing it's job! :P

I might be a total loss on this one, but is there a character guide? I am trying to play an alchemist and need to read up on strategy, build ideas and even the basics on how crystals and gems work. I thing I have searched the site + the files but cannot find any how-to-play guides. heck, I am not sure how the inscribe system works for runes, inscriptions, et all... for any characters!

A fighter question I have... with the generic skill which improves weapon damage for swords, axes ++... does this apply to two handed swords & Axes?

oh, I would love a way to scale the text which appears for combat damage and re-charge notices. Just allowing the font to grow or shrink.

Can windows, such as the 'info' window be moved around? I sure would like to place it in the upper right corner, instead of the lower right - mousing over a monster is kinda tough to quick read... upper left, dead center, at mouse position or wherever might be fun.

Having a way to reset/redesign your character's skills would be a fun thing to do, perhaps the chance can be given at lvs 20/40? Or just cost a bunch in a shop?

I have unlocked the Summoner class, but this does not show on my list of Achievements. Is it supposed too?

Is there a way to have my character auto-run through traps when quick navigating around dungeons? I would like that. I die = my fault.. but at least the option. *heheh*

Oh, I have more I guess... but need to jump back to work. Let me end by again congratulating the designers/programmers... I hope my thoughts don't ruffle any feathers. I love the game as is... but would love to custom it to my play style a bit ... :D

There's http://te4.org/wiki/tome4-charhints but the alchemist page is currently blank.

http://te4.org/wiki/tome4-charhints covers that, a bit.

Yes. Everything except knives/daggers and staves.

No; unlocks are separate from achievements.
