Re: Dumb questions thread
There is no auto-centre option like that at the moment.
You can rest until resources are completed by pressing 'r'. There is no "rest for 10 turns" function though.

What use is Telepathy Minor/Major? I found an item providing both, but it doesn't appear to be doing anything. Do I need to be blinded first or...?
Edit: Slightly related, what exactly does Torment do? I see it on items periodically.

Re: Dumb questions thread
"Major" and "Minor" in that context mean Major/Minor Demons. I don't know why it's not stated explicitly.
Re: Dumb questions thread
Re: Torment: Torment is a random debuff, taken from a fairly length list. Nothing game ending or particularly powerful, and it has a chance of causing th'critter you hit to teleport or be knocked back (which could be for good or ill, heh.), but it's not exactly bad.
Re: Dumb questions thread
Ah, good to know.
Edit: Snip, answered my own question if you will.

Re: Dumb questions thread
Here is my dumb question: how to take my gold from my golem?
He can't neither drop it or give it (or I don't know how).

Re: Dumb questions thread
Hi,
I decided to check out ToME to see how it was progressing. I remember about a year ago coming to this site (not actually playing yet), and am suprised that ToME has changed it's name now! Hope someone can help me with my dumb questions before I start playing
1) Was the name change a licensing issue?
2) Is ToME still one of the most popular roguelikes out there?
3) I don't like to restart characters. If I die ingame, can I resurrect? I understand I can get lives, but knowing me, this will run out quick!
4) And finally, will I be able to meet other online players ingame and join together doing quests?
Thanks.

Re: Dumb questions thread
Arjento,
1. I believe that the name change was because the game author, DarkGod, wanted to break from the Tolkien story line.
2. ToME 4 is still in beta testing. While it has a great deal of content, it is still undergoing considerable development. When it is a finished game, then we'll see about popularity.
3. If you play on Adventure difficulty, you get several extra lives as you progress through the game. But they are limited, and they don't offer any kind of easy escape from trouble.
4. There is a chat feature so that you can talk with other players. As far as I know there are no plans for multiplayer.

Re: Dumb questions thread
1. Part licensing, part artistic freedom.
2. It has been voted Roguelike of the Year 2010 in spite of only existing for 9 months of that year. So yeah, pretty popular.
3. Adventure gives extra lives, but if you don't use them right it doesn't make the game any easier. Discovery difficulty level makes the game easier in general, and you might want to try it whilst learning the ropes. I'm not sure if there are unlocks in that mode though.
4. No multiplayer (thankfully).

Re: Dumb questions thread
There aren't any unlocks in Discovery (nor can you get achievements). But, if you've already unlocked things in harder difficulty settings, you can try them out in the Discovery difficulty to see how they play. Probably a good idea to start at Discovery or Adventurer, as T4 can be...frustrating, unless you've already been to the areas you're playing through.Grey wrote:3. Thanks for the replies!
I'm trying to locate my savegames.
Does anyone know where they stored?
And suppose after a new version is released, would a copy/paste job of my save file work?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Savegames are usually stored in the "T-Engine" directory of your user folder, several subdirectories in. (T-Engine/4.0/tome/save/). They aren't typically compatible with new betas, but if they are, the compatibility will be announced in the release notes.

Re: Dumb questions thread
Which of these would prove most useful first?
A guide about all the zones, what to expect and what kind of boss is there.
A character builds suggestion guide for all classes.
A newbie guide that goes over basic tactics, controls, features, ect.
All will be made, I'm just wanting to know which would prove most useful to the general populous first?

Final Master's Character Guides
Final Master's Guide to the Arena
Edge: Final Master... official Tome 4 (thread) necromancer.
Zonk: I'd rather be sick than on fire! :D

Re: Dumb questions thread
For myself, I would want Zone Guide, Newbie Guide, then Character Guide.

For me, Character Build Guide, then Newbie Guide, then Zone Guide
