Bugged "Use" screen

There are several bugs that makes item dissapear or even have monstrous power. All of these involved "Use" screen. I'll list these here.

1. Crystalline Focus

When you use this gem it will direct you to the "Use" screen. After choosing the item you want to use gem on, the screen doesnt disappear. If you press few times, the game will think you imbued few gems into the item multiplying it's power attribute.

Solution at this moment: If you use gem once and the screen doesn't disappear, just press Escape. Crystalline focus will dissapear and you'll have brand new weapon.

2. Mindslayer's Psionic Focus (IMPORTANT)

Mindslayers have their 3rd weapon slot. To equip a weapon or a gem into it, you have to use one of your talents, which directs you to te "Use" screen. Now two scenarios can happen:

A
1. You are wielding starting Longsword as 3rd weapon.
2. You use your talent
3. Select the weapon/gem you wanna have as 3rd
4. Nothing happens
5. You press escape
6. Both Longsword and the new weapon/gem disappears

B
1. You are wielding starting Longsword as 3rd weapon.
2. You press on it and press "Take Off"
3. Nothing happens
4. You press escape
5. Longsword dissapears
6. You use your talent
7. Select the weapon/gem you wanna have as 3rd
8. Screen dissapears and you have your new weapon/gem in equipment, but you had to sacrifice the one you had equiped before

In other words:
You can't equip new Psioniced weapon until you will sacrifice the one you were wielding. In my case I have an artifact Bill's Trunk which I want to store into my "Home", but I can't D:

3. Deleting weapons.

While it's not "Use" Screen, it might be somehow related. I personally encountered it only once.

4. Using your equipment's talents.

It's like this:

1. You press "u"
2. You select the equipment with talent
3. Enemy has a turn
4. Targetting tiles appear
5. You select the enemy you wanna use the talent on
6. You have another turn before enemy has.

In other words after you press to use EQ's talent, enemy has a turn and then you have two. In case of extreme lag (much enemies or Confusion on OpenGL) you dont even get to target which enemy you wanna use the item on. You have just 1 turn and the game charges you energy outta the item.

5. Mindslayers can equip everything.

The bug is related to point 3.
When you try to "Use/Equip" the weapon in your inventory nothing will happen. The game will act as it disappeared, but since you didnt equip it, you can still see it in "Use" screen. Since you see 4 items and one of these is "broken" the game will fill the spot with other item from your inventory (you will still see the broken weapon, but in truth it will be something else)

I'll give you an example.

Longsword
Mace
Sword
Axe

We want to equip Mace so we press on it.

Longsword
Mace
Sword
Axe

But actually its like this

Longsword
Sword
Axe
Rod of Annulement (because it was on my 2nd slot after Orb of Scrying)

After we pressed on Mace and nothing happened, we press on axe which is actually Rod of Annulement.
In result you have it equiped.

I'll add a few other bugs i've noticed. *SPOILERS*

6. Mindslayers - Main weapon gets bugged too

The same way as Psionic slot does. I encountered it only once with main weapon and I don't know the reason.


7. Tannen's Tower trick

I personally think it's a bug. At the top of the tower there are 4 sealed doors that unlock as you kill all monsters. You can use pickaxe on the walls between doors (on corners)

8. DELETED

9. Pressing on black inaccesible tiles makes game freeze
As the title says. Freeze is usually 10-30 sec. Happens only on world map and certrain Laggy and big areas (more about it later)

10. It autoruns on the corners

In Angolwen theres a case like this: # - wall $ - shops @ - you

#########
#$#$#$#@#

You want to get to first shop from the left

#########
#@#$#$#$#

The character instead of going once in down-left and then running in a straight line to the shop is running through all 3 shops making all of them pop up.
This happens in the dungeons too.

11. The game remembers the traps

And it won't let you run on traps, which makes dungeon's like The Maze annoying. While it is probably intended, I post it here, because I think it should be different (or atleast being able to be changed in Options menu)

12. Some Area spells dont dissapear

Inferno is one of them. It actually bugs quite often. The dmg inferno does ends, but you can still see the area "infected" with it. Causes insane lag.

13.Overall Lag problems

While my notebook isn't great (Nvidia GeForce Go 7400, 1,5gb ram, 1,73 Ghz dual core) I think I should be running better than this:

Effects that cause lag:

Confuse (on OpenGL)
Tides (Mad lag on Open GL, little without it)
Any area spells (inferno,swamp etc)
Freeze
Death (actually before you die the game freezes, after 10-20 seconds you see Generating Stage)

Areas:

Mark of Spellblaze (First minute on all floors, demon plane)
All Orc Based areas (Especially the one with dragons.This can't be fixed. Any computer will lag with 500 hatchlings on the screen)
High Peek (along with last stage from the start)
Melinda's crypt (Generates last stage for 5 minutes and the last stage lags badly)

14. Warper

That made me lol actually. The warper casts the ?Rune of the Rift? at the last stage of (gorbat was it?) Dragon lover orc pride.
You can't do anything for a large amount of turns and you're invincible, but the dragons still aoe the hell outta everything. From 500 Hatchlings+Boss+50 Dragons vs You,
the game turns to Boss vs You.

15. Assault and Crit rate bug *Important*

Few hours after i learned it on my Dwarf Wyrmic I noticed My crit Rate is "1079%". While I had some luck and crit eq (which should gimme the 79%) I didn't know where the hell did 1000% came from
I tried disabling all abilities, unequiping everything (aside from weapon), change to some low level weapon.
Nothing helped. Made me delete the Wyrmic, and roll the Mindslayer.

16. Patrols gone?

When you stand on any Arrow on world map, and any patrol will try to atk you, he will simply dissapear.

I'll continue the list as i'll find more bugs. This game is really great and addicting and I want to help updating it.

EDIT: Point 6. Im apparently retarded and didn't notice that my Voratun Hammer of Deep Below was as "Second Weapon"
I probably clicked "x" twice and didn't notice -.-.
EDIT2: I didn't understand the All Resist/Damage stat properly. Deleted point 8

Thanks for the detailed list of bugs. In the future can you separate each bug into its own thread? It is easier to address them that way instead of a wall of text. On to the bugs!


1) known and fixed
2) known and fixed
4) known but difficult to fix
5) errr... not quite I understand. I was able to replace weapons just fine in the "e" screen (Inventory).
6) same bug, known and fixed
7) I'll bump that more someone else to look at.
9) Sounds like Astar path-finding going crazy.
10) Ditto Astar... it is a perfectly valid path since diagonal movement is not penalized in ToME. Shops have changed in beta21 so you shouldn't see the multiple pop-ups.
11) Bumped.
12) Hmmm, haven't seen this in SVN... maybe fixed?
13) There are a bunch of performance improvements coming in beta21. Get back to us if they are not enough.
14) The warper uses Time Prison which does bug people. Coming in beta21 you can customize what talents your summons use by right-clicking on them (I cannot remember the exact order of selection titles).
15) I think this is fixed.
16) Known and not fixed... limited time, etc.

On the theme of limited time, if you can do a quick search on the forums before posting a bug it helps us not have to wade through repostings of bugs. If the bug thread you find is several weeks old feel free to repost it, though. Thanks again for your detailed reports, and cheers! :)

Good to know most of them are fixed already ;p

If you fixed point 2, point 5 will be fixed too, so I don't think i'll need to try explaining it (english is my 2nd language btw).

I'll gladly post bugs into different threads next time ;)

Gotcha, and no worries... I understood what you said, just not what you meant. Happens pretty frequently on forums... darn you internet! :)
