I lay a lot of traps. And I've noticed that they sometimes disappear early, seemingly without reason. Sometimes they disappear on the turn they are played.
So the disappearances that I can recall have all happened when a two similar traps (typically nightshade) are placed in quick succession. (As quickly as the cooldown allows, anyway.)
Traps disappear on their own after ~10 turns. And the disappearance timing leads me to suspect something like this:
-place nightshade trap 1
-trap 1 timeout countdown begins
-nightshade trap is sprung by enemy
-place trap 2 before trap 1 timeout would have ended
-trap 2 is somehow tied to timeout of trap 1
-trap 1 timeout ends, and trap 2 disappears
After the most recent disappearance, I decided to do a bit of testing with my rogue, Cromwell. Sure enough, trap 2 disappeared early as described above.
Before posting here, though, I figured I'd test again with an older rogue that'd died once. And I can't seem to reproduce the disappearance anymore. So there is a piece to the puzzle I'm missing. I'm pretty confident in the above timeout confusion assessment, but it looks like there's another circumstance required for this to happen, and I don't know what it is. It could just be that the timing involved (when trap 1 springs, when trap 2 is placed) must be exact. Enemies aren't cooperative enough for me to test further easily.

Re: Weird Disappearing Traps
Aha, got it.
You have to place trap 2 on the same tile that trap 1 was on.
Now it's reproducible.

Re: Weird Disappearing Traps
I've seen this happen as well but I couldn't figure out how to reproduce it.

Re: Weird Disappearing Traps
This bug (or some very similar bug) is occurring again.
I'm standing still in a narrow passage, trying to repel a hoard of snakes. As a result, I am placing traps on the same square again and again. The log window says, "Trove places Nightshade Trap", etc. So I know they are actually being placed. But many are disappearing instantly, or within very few turns without being triggered.
If I can narrow it down more, I will. But it's looking pretty similar to the bug in the original post.
EDIT:
beta 28

Re: Weird Disappearing Traps
This is definitely still happening (beta 28), and easy to confirm:
1. Set any trap [A] in the path of an enemy.
2. Enemy triggers trap.
3. Set any trap in the same location as the original trap [A].
Traps have their own lifespan, and disappear if not triggered. When a trap [A] is placed, the lifespan [A] of that trap is tied to that location. If trap is placed in the same location before lifespan [A] expires, trap adopts lifespan [A] as its own. As a result, trap can disappear immediately, or after very few turns.
This is a pretty common occurrence for me, even though I try to be careful not to do it.
