cross-platform saves?

#1 Post by ikarius »

Hey there, just started fiddling with ToME 4, and came across this; the text at startup insinuates that by logging into the te4 servers, I can play my characters across multiple computers. I started playing on my windows 7 PC, but also have an macbook pro I'd like to play on occasionally. However, when I fire up ToME on my macbook & log into my account, I don't see any characters/saves from the "load game" menu. Is this expected to work?

If the text gives that impression, then it needs to be made more clear.

Your saved games are stored locally. They are very, very large -- 1 MB for a newborn character who has done nothing, and well over 100 MB for characters that have passed the midpoint of the storyline. They are not uploaded to te4.org.

What is uploaded to te4.org, if you opt in, are your unlocks/achievements, and your character sheet. By having the unlocks uploaded to your te4.org profile, you don't need to redo those unlocks on other computers. By having your char sheets uploaded, other people can see your progress.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. I'll admit, I read the text hastily, it mentioned multiple computers, and I may have simply read what I wanted to. I suppose that leads directly to my next question, which is- are save games expected to be cross-platform compatible- if I huck my save games between computers via USB key or some such, should they load on either platform?

I think in theory it should be 100% portable between operating systems. Give it a test to find out ;)

They are, unless you switch from a 32bits compile to a 64bits one (but all the ones I do are always 32bits so you're fine unless you compile yourself)
