Skeleton Mage in Trollmire 2

#1 Post by smuglapse »

I'm not sure if this is a bug or intentional. It was standing outside a 4x4 hut within a square pattern of trees.

Since this was my 7th character I knew what to expect and was able to dispatch it at Level 2. But if this was my first introduction to the game, I would have lost and probably have been disheartened enough to stop playing. Doesn't it seem wrong for it to have spawned there?

Maybe the game takes into account I was playing an unlocked class (Anorithil) and upped the challenge accordingly? ;)

That is perfectly normal situation. It's also easily recognizable and can be avoided. Even first time player can expect something unusual before encountering skeleton mage.

Try Crawl. There you can be killed by unique out of the depth monster on level two without any prior indication of it's presence and without means to escape.
Roguelikes are merciless generally, and TOME is fairly benign for roguelike.

I guess my other characters were luckier.

That's crazy stuff.

The player gets a warning on trying to open the vault, so I think that's rather sufficient.

More of a problem are the out of depth wyrmics that can appear on Trollmire 1 :/

In this one, the skeleton is actually on the outside of the hut, and not behind the door. I think having him inside the hut with the prizes (and the door have a warning) would be a better setup for this one, especially at low levels.

It's pretty obvious that you're approaching something special from the arrangement of the corridor of trees that leads into the vault area where the skelly mage is standing.
