instakill from trap for 1st level char (b19)

#1 Post by martinuzz »

My skeleton AB just got killed on the second level (or level 6 actually) of the Blighted ruins by stepping on a acid trap.
It did 104 damage, which instakilled my 100hp level 1 character.

And why is this a bug?

More a design flaw. Traps shouldn't do that level of damage in low level areas.

Not sure I agree with that particular line of reasoning...

On the other hand if there is no method or workaround to avoid traps in any way (disable/disarm/dig/PD) then I would agree that is a problem.

This is the second level of the starter area for undead. Not everyone has access to trap detection, and even it isn't reliable. I'm not sure how any character can reasonably be expected to avoid this.

Not quite what I said... If you can't avoid the trap then that is a problem...

Code: Select all

+++++++++++++++++++++++++
@           ^          <+
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
So look at the above, the skeleton has detected the trap but can't get round it and would have to walk over it to get to the stairs up. That's a game killer, right there!

Undiggable walls in the starting dungeon for undead - which makes it worse.

Because I remember changelogs (quite a few versions ago) stating that traps had been nerfed such, that they couldn't instakill new characters anymore.

And yes indeed, I hit that trap in such a situation that it was impossible to circumvent it, except with phase door. I had that, but I also hadn't detected it before I stepped on it.

A trap that can do over 100 damage on the second level of a starting dungeon is a balance problem. Period.
