How about slingers and bows, getting ammo slots... Ie. You pick up a ammo "rune" for your bow, which imbues it with said ego.

Most bows will have only 0 or 1 slot to imbue, but really cool bows could imbue 2 slots for egos (thinking 3 might be overpowered).

So you'll get
Elm Bow of Power (1 slot)
Mighty Dragonbone bow of Power (3 slots)

And the "runes" can be used on either the bow or the slings (less clutter).

Now we just need a better name for launcher runes. Gems could make sense, but they won't really match the current uses. Also I think they may be too common, so it's too easy to find decent stuff to put in.
