ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I am stuck in the hallowed fields! It was my first time there. The pumpkin in the middle stayed whole and didn't respond to skills / attacks / etc. I reloaded and all the pumpkins, crushed or not, were gone. I searched the internet, and found that this is a long-standing problem. The character is a Cronac archer who is called "Archael". How do I fix that? thanks in advance
