ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Hello everyone,

I love this game so much I decided to buy it all, the game, the dlcs, everything on steam.I used to play the standalone version.

Since then, the game got buggy as hell. My main character is unplayable: I'm stuck in last hope and I get a bug alert as soon as I try to leave the place or anything.

I reported the bugs and decided to start a new character.

After level 12, it starts to be buggy too: Can't change gear.

Now steam version I decided to reinstall doesn't launch anymore.

I think the problems come from the coexistence of the 2 versions since they don't have the same add-ons installed and the fact I played once on the steam version and once on the stand-alone version with the same character...

How do I get out of this ?

I can't offer much guidance because I'm unfamiliar with this issue, but my first recommendation would be to completely uninstall both clients and delete local data before reinstalling your preferred client. I'm not sure where the profile data is stored on Linux, but on Windows it's in a user-specific directory in a folder called T-Engine. Make a note of all the addons you want to use, then I would recommend downloading them again after reinstalling the client.

I don't know if this will actually fix the issue, but logically it seems like it should if the problem is caused by an interaction between the two clients.

It sounds like you tried to play characters that were created in the stand alone version of the game, with the Steam version of the game, but without installing the same addons first.
The game should be able to handle loads of different copies of itself, but don't characters in a version that doesn't have the right addons.

Ok so Thanks reddit and you, it appears clear, as I feared, that the bugs come from the fact that I played characters that were created in the stand alone version of the game, with the Steam version of the game, but without installing the same addons first.

There is a bug for every move I make, every key I press, every breath I take.

Therefore, I tried this:

1. Removed both games, steam cache and reinstalled only the standealone version;

2. tried my characters without any addons installed;

3. tried my characters with the exact same addons that they were created with;

Unfortunately, nothing helped.

I arrived to the conclusions those poor Georges III and Georges IV are forever stuck in the loop. I know I should kill them but I don't find already the strenght. I keep visiting them regularly like we go to the zoo, except that you don't have to shut down manually the entire station manually at the zoo for every visitor.

Oh yeah, I started a new char and it works like a charm, obviously but I thought I would precise it.
