ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

It says that melee crits generate additional unarmed strikes, but the passive it gives says that it only triggers on crits against adjacent targets, and not sure how it works, but I'm sure it doesn't trigger from knife throws (that generate melee strikes and melee crits).
