ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Two times I've used the farportal (second time after using a backup) and two times the game has bugged out on the second level. I haven't used the wand of recall (but I have used auto-explore) but wand of recall portals keep popping up everywhere. Is this an issue with this particular game, or is there something in the code that it causing it to bug out?

Is it perhaps to do with having the rod of recall linked to the fortress?

It seems like the rod of recall (without activating it) makes versions of itself around the level, and you should only take the portal if you are sure you have cleared all the monsters in the level (including the boss). If you take one of them before that, it bugs out. Is there any way to make the rod of recall only make one portal where the boss died?

It's not a bug, it's made on purpose

Well, the first two times I took one of the portals, the farportal stopped working. It was only when I defeated all the monsters first and explored the whole map that it didn't happen.

So the farportal only works if you have at least 30 fortress energy? Maybe that should be mentioned somewhere in-game. When I first used it, it only had a limited amount of energy. I guess after the first use I ran out of energy, which is why it said it needed more energy. In later games I had more spare energy.

What does the farportal say if it has got bugged? I wouldn't use the Rod of Recall obviously since I know that breaks it.
