The game doesn't save properly anymore

When I leave the game (to windows) and restart, the game somehow hasn't saved the last game properly. So a lot of progress is lost, because I just see a fairly old save file. I paid attention during the game and it said various times, that the game is saving (auto-save feature is active).

An example:
#1: I create a new champ and play him till some level (e.g. 15)
#2: I exit the game and restart
#3: The save-file shows and earlier version of the character (e.g. lvl 10; I havn't found any regularity; it seems fairly random)
#4: Once a save file is in this situation no further progress seems to get saved, so anytime I leave the game and restart, the save-file goes back to #3

I also mentioned that the game stared to lag quite a bit during the auto-saves, which is new. I already deleted and re-installed the game in steam, but that didn't help.

I know my description is rather weird/vague, but maybe someone experience something similar.

I'm guessing you don't have Steam cloud saves on, right? Beyond that, I've never encountered this kind of issue.

I use steam-cloud.
What makes it even stranger is that I see the "correct" progression in the picture next to the loading-file, yet it still load an "old version" of this character.

Steam cloud does some magical fuckery with saves so its best to leave them off. It will sometimes overwrite parts of zones in the middle of your game and other times will lock you out of Sher'Tul fortress because it overwrites it to a time where you hadn't cleared it.

I did rest the steam-cloud and reinstalled it one more time and now it seems to work again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. :)
