ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

So I was crawling through the Labyrinth and encountered a unique thief. He used Hateful Whisper on me, killed me, and then I believe I killed him with my golem. The duration of it somehow didn't disappear at 0, and is now counting the negatives. So I cannot progress out of this area as it still registers the debuff as being on me .

Is there anything I can do about it? Or is this run toasted?
