On any character I create, hovering over the Venomous Strike talent (tier 2 Poisons talent) in the point assignment screen causes the following error:

If that just meant that I couldn't use that talent, not a huge loss. But at any point afterward, right clicking my character causes the following error:

Finally, if I die at any point, the game doesn't actually acknowledge the death, and I am left unable to see/control my character and give up that file.

well, that's some freak glitch accident.

you say "on any character".
i have never heard of such a bug, yet you seem to be able to reliably reproduce it.
my guess would be an addon.

so standard questions there.
system:?
game version:?
any mods:?
also, is that still happening if you never learn the talent, or if you unlearn it?

Win 10 Pro
1.4.6
Archeryfix, item-vault, stone warden (no other add-ons/mods)

I don't have to learn the talent for it to happen. I can start a new character, hover over the 2nd poison talent, and it happens.

EDIT: I just uninstalled and reinstalled to be sure, and the errors still happen.

EDIT 2: I wiped all trace of ToME from all of my disks and reinstalled via both steam and the standalone installer. The bug still happens in the steam version, but not in the other. I can play around it now, but I didn't really solve the bug itself.

Have you tried disabling the Archery fix addon? A bugfix addon that's over a year old is almost certainly useless anyway, and likely to cause unexpected issues.

This is correct.

The bugs the Archery Fix addon fixes have been corrected in the base game, and the addon no longer works properly.
