neither does it have chronomancy, meta, tempest, stone...

the achievement may say "unlock", but what it realy mean is that it reveals the category to all future characters.
its like wanting to have staff mastery and only paying for the cheapest option.
to actually use it, you have to spend a category point.

(Haven't noticed that character page doesn't list locked categories)

and you are absolutely sure that this character was CREATED BEFORE THE ACHIEVEMENT WAS TAKEN.
and that if you were to create another one, it would still not have the category?

Yes, I've created two characters today and none had Ice category, the achievement was earned on 2015-05-20. Now I've tried to create other Archmages, and they all now have this category, strange...
