[1.3.0] Resolution Mouse Issues

Currently the only resolution that seems to work correctly for me is 1280x720, which the game automatically resets to every time I start the game.

Any larger resolution causes either one of two issues:
-The mouse curor to be displaced down and to the right about 1/8th of the screen, and so the mouse is actually selecting things far from where it actually is.
-If I alt-tab or set it to non-full screen the game pops up and only displays a small portion of the screen, relative to the resolution I am trying to test out, and the only way to fix it is to restart the game which then sets it back to the default resolution.

I've scoured google and the forums trying to find anything like it, but I have had no luck so far. It currently is playable, but I can't see fast 4 squares and so trying out the new stuff in 1.3 has been simply a bother (q.q)

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

Apologies for the thread necromancy, but I've been having very similar issues on a new computer. ToME refuses to run at the machine's native resolution, and sometimes the game starts at a vertical offset that goes away when re-setting the resolution in the running game. I'd really appreciate some help with this.

This seems to be a common problem on a few games for me.
Running the game without high scaling DPI worked for me.

Thanks for pointing this out to me! :D Yes, turning the scaling off solved my problems. ToME runs just fine now.

I have a similar problem ever since I got my new computer, so about 3 months now.
I cannot launch ToME at 1920x1080 as it always reset and even if I do change back to it I don't see the whole screen anyway.
After closing the game, all my other windows have been resized and my desktop icons may have moved.

ToME is the only game with which I have this problem, I've launched about 20 other and never noticed anything wrong.

When you say turn off the DPI scaling, you mean on your mouse? If so, I tried every settings of my mouse and didn't notice any difference.

It's not the fault of your mouse. The problem with high-DPI displays is that things look smaller than on low-DPI displays. Windows apparently tries to compensate for that by scaling everything up. That of course messes with the T-Engine's internal resolution system and leads to problems like this. The solution for this specific issue is to disable the scaling in the executable's compatibility settings. Find your T-Engine.exe, right click and go to the Compatibility tab. There should be a little box you can tick to turn the scaling off. If I remember correctly, you can also turn it off globally somewhere in the system settings. It's actually a rather useful system most of the time, though.

I hope this helps! :) Please do let us know how things work out for you. Since more and more people use high-DPI displays nowadays, we are probably not the last to stumble over this issue. It would be good to know that this solution works for everyone.

Alright, didn't know about this option, I only tried the mouse thing because "mouse" was in the title and I mostly hear about DPI when buying a new mouse ^^

I'll try that tonight and let you know how it went!

If you set the "Disable display scaling on high DPI setting" in the exe's compatibility options it should work fine.

You can also test that:
- make a backup of the exe & dll files in your game install
- download http://te4.org/dl/tmp/test16.zip
- unzip all of it in your game install
- make sure the "Disable display scaling on high DPI setting" fix in the post above is NOT enabled; or you wont test anything ;)
- test!

And tell me if this works :)

And then delete all the exe & dll files and place back the backups (because this is just a test not a production build)

Thanks

Reporting back.
The test files didn't resolve the issue.

Disabling scaling in compatibility worked perfectly! :D

But the test files didn't help :(

Can you try by replacing the SDL2.dll file from the game with the one in this zip please ?
https://www.libsdl.org/tmp/release/SDL2 ... 32-x86.zip

(obviously as usually make a backup first and disable the properties fix)

I don't have a sdl2.dll file in the same folder as the t-engine.exe. After a search, I don't have a sdl2.dll in the whole Tales of Maj'Eyal folder.
I added it anyway and tried but it didn't do anything.
After looking I just realised the dll in the test16 zip were not the same dll I have on my folder. Don't know why I didn't notice the first time.

test17.zip works for me.
