ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

My PC froze this afternoon; when I restarted and reloaded the game, my character was at level 8 suddenly and had just entered Zigur, even though I finished several zones past that point and the game must have saved at least a dozen times (I was level 14 or 15 when the PC froze). I also couldn't fulfill the Angolwen quest for some reason. I played on regardless, quit the game at lvl 15 to go shopping, came back, loaded, and was lvl 8 again. I deleted the character and created a new one, played to level 12 (or something like that), then left for this evenings pen&paper session. I just came back, started the game - and I am back at lvl 7. I did use the same name for the new character, so I suppose there might be a connection there, but this still seems strange to me.

Edit: my internet is very erratic, but I made sure I was online when creating the second character, as well as when quitting the game.

Are you using any addons?
What race/class?
Steam cloud saves?

No addons, Cornac doomed, steam cloud was enabled, I think - I'll disable it and report if it keeps happening.

It appears this IS a steamcloud problem. It might be a good idea to put a warning message in the news or something, as bugs like this (regardless of their origin) can really spoil any fun the game offers otherwise.

Just had this issue - saved and quit in Ardhungol, immediately reloaded and found myself back in Dreadfell.

I checked the character's save folder in my user area (T-Engine\4.0\tome\save) and it was up to date with latest timestamps, whereas the data for the same character in Steam\userdata was out-of-date. I tried manually overwriting the Steam data from my user folder, but that didn't make any difference at all.

So - I am unable to progress with this character now unless somebody can suggest a solution!

I did try that as a temp workaround, but the game still loads from the Steam save location it seems... what I can't figure out is where that is! I manually overwrote the save folder in Steam\userdata with my local user save files and yet I still appear in Dreadfell.

It's very odd.

Regardless, I need cloud save turned on in general as I play on 3 different PCs so I think I'll keep this character cryogenically frozen until we have a fix. Does make me reluctant to start new games though, as I've had this on 3 different characters now.

You won't be able to recover the overwritten save, but disabling the steam cloud should stop it from happening again.
