Freezing When Starting New Game

Purchased and DLed Ashes of Urh'Rok. Started a Doombringer, leveled til I unlocked Demonologist.
Went to start a Demonologist and the game froze at the load screen into the character creator. The load bar just sits there flashing at 100% (flashing like it kinda does when actually loading). I've let it sit (~15 minutes), uninstalled and reinstalled (via Steam), still not working.
When I use the .exe (without going through Steam) I don't encounter the same problem but it won't let me log into the game that way (ofc, since it's not running through Steam). I don't know if this is an account problem, a Steam problem or a problem with the DLC (since it isn't "active" when I'm not logged in) or something entirely different.
Game still let's me load saves and whatnot just fine.
Any tips, tricks or advice would be helpful. Thanks!
PS: Darkgod, love the game. Only roguelike I can stand to play; engrossing lore, inventive classes and mechanics. Glad that I bought it! Still haven't won.
