Something fishy in Norgos' Lair in 1.2.3?

Happening number 1) Game crashed unexpectedly in Norgos' 3, had to clear everything again from N:1 onwards. Well, this sometimes happens. However...
...happening number 2) Again in Norgos' 3 and fishy business. I load a game in Norgos' 3, clear everything, finish escort quest, kill Norgos and then save and quit. Next time I come back my char is still in same place it was before I had cleared the level 3. So the progress between my last save and this has been completely erased. Norgos' is still alive and my escort quest is still ongoing. I haven't had many characters in N:3 at all in 1.2.3 so these two incidents actually represent like 30 % of character I've gotten there in 1.2.3 (although the sample size is quite small lol).
Pretty pissed because it was a promising madness roguelike run which I proceeded to ruin the second time around in N:3 because I was so bored to have to do it again (N:3 can take surprisingly long on madness if you roll a bad level).
Could this have something to do with playing 1.2.2 saves in 1.2.3? In addition to location that's the only thing I can think of.
