ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

So I'm on thee beach, but the Yaech things don't spawn. I try to leave through worldmap, says romantic time not finished. I rod of recall out, go back to last hope, and apparently I'm "looking for an explanation" or something. The quest itself doesn't update at all, and I visited the butler like some suggested, and there were no dialogue options. What do I do?
