ring of dead bug or the log is just incomplete in some way?

i lost a very promising character today in a quite strange way, i was in the slime tunnels and slowly pummeled one of the guards (demon one) to death with my sling when he suddenly snatched me into fearscape. i couldn't outdamage his healing and leeching in fearscape, so my character died and was resurrected by the ring of dead just to die at the very same turn again from my own shot from before (which supposedly was frozen in the air waiting for me to emerge back) because demon swapped places with me or used bone grab, i'm not sure. since i play on roguelike and lost the blood of life already it was the end. it would be sad and amusing but there is one strange thing about it which i don't understand at all - i thought that the ring resurrected me at 100%, and my character had more than 1000hp, the steady shot which killed it did 313 damage only, it was the only damage which the character took after resurrection and the character page shows it had -595/1179 life. so where did the damage come from? how it's possible to have -595hp being killed from 1179hp by 313 damage shot? may it be possible that the shot hit before the ring of dead healed all hp back? or i just don't understand something again ><
