Distorted Animated Sword's temporal area effect: 6166 dmg

At level 32, in Ardhungol, I was autoexploring (for 2 turns) when suddenly my character instantly died. Reading the chat log, I see:

"Distorted Animated Sword's temporal area effect hits Cruux for 6166 temporal damage."

I have 20% res all, and I think maybe a damage shield, so I assume the effect actually hits for at least 7708 damage. That seems... high.

Also, I think the area effect is still there. There is a yellow transparent field in the area. It is not going away. Even though I think the sword may have died, perhaps because I still had a mirroring damage shield up. At least, I don't see the sword around after resurrecting, even when I use Vimsense.

Crappy... this is now my last life (and only thanks to the Blood of Life). Hopefully that field isn't blocking the way to anywhere important.

Paradox type mobs are rather rare, fortunately.
Not sure but it sounds like a temporal anomaly that happened there.

So it may be working as intended. I'll try to think harder about ways I could survive/avoid something like that, but nothing's coming to me at the moment. For now, it feels like an arbitrary instadeath that undermines the sense of skill/foresight/preparation in the game.

I'll add that the field did go away sometime after 30 turns (after 30 turns, I went manually exploring, finished the map, then returned to find it gone). Also, before it vanished, I tried invoking a tentacle onto it (50% resist all), which got hit for around 3000+ temporal damage.

I would imagine there might have been something causing that enemy to cast stuff around which in turn increased his paradox to absurd amounts.

Personally I haven't experienced anything like that ever, so I'd say it has to be a rare occurrence.

Sometimes though the enemies get fighting among themselves even if they're the same faction, so that might have caused the paradox jump. Maybe the monster had a detection skill it spammed to find you or something.

I have no idea if it was an actual bug or not but it sounds incredibly stupid regardless. You may want to take a look at this thread (in case it wasn't a bug): http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=40573
