Corrupted Save - Salvageable?

I am in the middle of a very successful Ghoul Paradox Mage (Dead not Dead). I ran it to level 31 through Reknor...then tried to restart via Steam. Apparently the Steam vs. not Steam restart confused the game, because I came back in Last Hope (pre-Reknor) a few levels lower. The problem (drum roll)...is that this apparently reset the main map and my home, so that I can neither access Celia nor, apparently, the farportals (the butler is not there, and I had to re-beat the Wierdling Beast.
Is there a way to reset / rescue the relevant files? (It doesn't help that I lost everything dropped on the floor in there)...are there local save files? Is this a cloud vs. local problem?
This has all of the feel of a winning run, so it would be nice not to have to start all over again. More to the point, is there a known issue with running through Steam as opposed to not doing so?
