Crashing at Talent Tree/Inventory

Posting on behalf of a friend.
Occasionally, he can place talents and arrange his inventory perfectly fine, but it seems that most of the time he crashes upon assigning a point or opening the inventory. This happens regardless of class/race, though once a character works it works until it dies.
The installer was run as administrator, the game is running as administrator, and it is not being caused by any anti-virus programs. The only details of any possible value are that upon crashing, the cursor seems to enlarge for some reason, and it crashes so hard that control + alt + delete doesn't even function.
Operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.
