ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I quit the game after arriving on the beach, but before kissing her/spawning the first wave of monsters. When I resumed Melinda refused to talk to me, and after I recalled back to the fortress she did not follow me. She is back at her house, and I can tell her I'm "still looking into what happened on the beach," but my butler at the fortress won't say anything about the topic.

I'm guessing there's now no way to get the quest back on the rails? Sigh, guess I'll check back in after a few patches.
