ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I was doing farportals, and when I tried to take the portal out of there, the game got stuck loading the fortress, endlessly looping the loading bar animation. After about five minutes watching the loading bar, I killed the game's process and booted it again. I had to redo the farportal, and when I got to the fortress again, I was met by the weirdling beast. My butler was gone, and so was my gear there. The door to the farportal was locked. In the journal, it would still tell me that I had gotten the butler and opened the farportal room.

This was the second time that I had this issue with the following room not loading. A couple of hours ago, it happened going to the second floor of a previous farportal. I did the same thing, killed the proccess.

I understand I'm a couple of versions outdated, but I still had to finish this character, and this seemed like a fairly serious issue. Thankfully I have a backup that I created a couple of hours on that first time it glitched on the loading bar, so all I'll be losing is one level and an artifact I couldn't use.

(As an aside, will my character be tagged a hacker or something like that, if I load this hours old backup? I don't know how this works. I don't even know if there's this sort of system in place.)
