[1.0.4] orc ambush killed me for reals!

My Skeleton Archmage had zero deaths going into my fight against The Master. That changed quickly. NEED FREEZE RESISTANCE BADLY.

But I finally wasted him, and then thought I was doing pretty well against the orc ambush. Except they killed me. And then it actually counted as my last death. :evil:

That I'm aware, it's not a bug if you kill the enemy leader and THEN die to the other mooks there. That actually KILLS you. Which is... odd. This strikes me as a very odd question of 'realism', but maybe it's intentional, given that it's been there for multiple versions?

You can actually die from arcane storm as an archmage :(

Good to know!

But is that what actually happened here? It was fairly early on in the battle so I'm almost positive that I didn't do enough damage to Ukruk to kill him. The last thing to get a hit on me is an orc archer.

If you'll check your lifes/deaths tooltip, you'll see that it lists your last death as to yourself.

So yeah, apparently if you "kill yourself" in the ambush, no one will save you, either. Disruption Shield counts as a self-kill IIRC, so that could easily be it if you had it up.

I guess that is, strictly speaking, not a bug; The reason you don't die in the ambush is the orcs staying their hand, thematically, because of their leader. Not much they can do about you exploding...

Actually, it was the ethereal staff that did you in. Normally, you get a very large damage shield upon "dying" in the ambush to protect you from any projectiles or environmental effects that manage to get a hit in before being erased. However, your ethereal staff gave you damage shield penetration, which meant that your self-inflicted disruption shield explosion was able to pierce that shield and take away your last hit point.

The ambush should probably grant you invulnerability instead of a damage shield to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future.

Yeah, having it grant a ten turn Victory Rush is safer at this stage, and more effective.
