[1.0.4] Blood of Life + Skeleton

Currently running a Skeleton Brawler and just found blood of life, quaffed it and it said that it had no effect (even checked by saving and dying on purpose, and no regeneration possible).

So either it's a bug that it doesn't work

or its arguably a bug that it can drop for them

Why?
Undeads cant be affected by the blood of *life* sounds logical :)
And why shouldnt it drop ? Drops are not indexed by your race or class, just like a mage can find an antimagic weapon

well ... then at least a clear note on it that it doesn't work on undead ccharacters would be nice

Not necessary. Really, what does it cost you? The few gold you could get selling it instead? That's not really worth giving up the nice twist to this. And it is kind of clear that 'the blood of life flows in your veins' when you drink it normally, and you have no veins or blood as a skeleton or ghoul (or lich.)

An artifact that is absolutely worthless for two races is a marginal problem.

It probably ought to do something.

The problem is, of course, making "Blood of Life" do anything logical for an undead creature besides outright kill them(which is also bad).

The best idea I can come up with is to have it unforbid nature/give you a life regeneration bonus(+5?), as your body's raw materials come to life. Maybe a Con bonus, too.

Sure, you still work the same way-living bones don't stay together without magic any better than dead bones(to say nothing of, say, lacking a brain as a skeleton), living bodies with tons of necrotic material still aren't terribly functional, and you're still basically undead due to that. But having living material lets you "fool" nature and you now have the combination of magical forces and natural healing for your body's repairs.

Or you could just gain the ability to use Infusions. Huge bonus [potentially] that is simple to add.

I don't like this, way too powerful. It would become a 'must get or restart character' type of bonus for a lot of people.

I agree. Too powerful

Skeletons have a specific racial ability that replaces the Blood of Life. This is less of an issue than the numerous yellow artifacts that can't be used by many classes, for exactly this reason. I'd give it some fun flavor text if an undead tries to drink it and leave it at that.

The halfling foot is also harmfull for halflings, it gives them -5 Luck instead of +5 Luck if I remember correctly. So you mean it also has to be changed?

I think the items are good and also logic the way they are now.

Suppress forbid_nature would indeed be too powerful.
But giving them a living appearance (event without the cloak) would be an interesting bonus...

While it certainly doesn't HAVE to do anything at all, what about something Vim-based?

Vim is magic based on the life force of your enemies, that you're perverting to your own use. So why not let the blood of 'life' provide you with a source of vim and a talent or talent tree, for undead? Something more useful then the current hexs available to everyone are. Still doesn't do much, since it has to be build specific (either it ends up str based or mag based) but it's better then nothing. Curses maybe? Or the willful tormentor/overkill/blood lock tree?

Or just a single talent that uses vim, and comes at it's own level. (Something like blood grasp would offer a connection to blood, and life, and provide the skelly/ghoul with another means of healing; but if we're going with a single talent, I'd rather see something new and original.)

Unlocks a customization option to give your skelly hair. :)

Or, in the same vein, drinking the blood of life could cause you to 'grow' flesh, and return to the world of the living... for a few seconds before your flesh rots back off you. Almost a joke... And then unlock the graphical option to have (rather then a standard skeleton) a semi-fleshy rotting one, with pieces of flesh still on.

OTOH, we probably lack the detail to do that.

Could at least use the idea above, and everything BUT the hair rots back off...

EDIT: Or, for that matter, these skeletons originally came from somewhere. How about unlocking the racial for a random/chosen race, to become a Halfling Skeleton. Or a Thaloren Skeleton. Or Shaloren, Higher, etc. Give the racial tree for the race. Whether this should be random or chosen is another story. I want my Halfling Skeletons, dammit! Just because you've been raised from the dead (and remember your class) is no excuse for you to magically forget the military prowess or luck of a halfling... Or for the intrinsic magic of a higher to fade, etc.
