[1.0] Lost character after save and exit

Here's what happened, as I posted in General Discussion (before I was sure whether or not it was a bug or a feature; pretty sure it's a bug at this point):

I had a level 26 character suffocate in some water(I had a bunch of extra lives so I didn't really worry; just wanted to test out how far I could get on just the basic air supply). Eventually the character suffocated, and since I had an alchemist, I immediately started controlling the golem.

I then saved and exited, as I had some work to do and I figured I could get back that position when I loaded (my golem was still alive and I wanted him to run around for a bit before self-destructing). However, when I got back to the load screen, my character was no longer there - instead, I found him in the high score table as a dead character, even though he had lives left.

A look at the lives/deaths numbers seems to indicate that I did indeed have lives left, so it wasn't a case of a legitimate permanent death.

I tested this out again by making a new character, making sure he had extra lives, killing him off and then saving and exiting the game while a golem was still alive (that is, before you're given a proper chance to resurrect). Doing this apparently renders the character unplayable.

If anyone knows how to make the character playable again I would very much appreciate the help (I still have the folders and haven't started any new character by the same name).

Edit: Upon further inspection the character vault doesn't even seem to have registered this "death". When I do a search for my character (i.e, search for Cornac Alchemists playing the Maj'Eyal campaign on Normal Adventurer), he shows up, but when I check the "only dead" filter he doesn't show up. Not sure if that information is useful at all, but it was just something I noticed.
