Escorts running away from a mob, just to stand in the middle of a water pool and drown.

Escortees are supposed to be stupid.

No, really. You're not intended to be able to save all of them with ease. The achievement for saving them all is just that -- an achievement.

In fact, they are much smarter now than they were originally. At least they no longer charge directly toward monsters.

But they still can run from some distant enemy and retreat directly into some others...
It's especially frustrating in Old Forest/Trollmire where you often don't see where they went.

Have you tried telling them to stop running? (No, seriously!)

That only works for a very short while (and is not really explained anywhere that you can do that).

I was told that repeated attempts can make them stand still again, but I'm not sure of the veracity of that statement.

Someone once mentioned that it has a cooldown.

Twenty turn CD, yeah, iirc. I'd have to code check to know for sure and... not right now. Too busying wrasslin' with Oblivion mods (FCOM specifically, the pox-damned thing.).

This happened again today, with a seer choosing to stand in water while hiding from a warg that was like 50 tiles away from it.

There is a difference between actual difficulty and the escort ai being downright retarded.

Ha ha! I think we're so used to escorts doing more stupid things that some of us wouldn't give a self-drowning escort a second thought. Hopefully this thread will get a "fixed" from darkgod.

But if it stays, I can keep making Leroy Jenkins jokes.... ;) Plus, what else would people have to tell humorous stories about?

Surely there's a happy medium between "Oh stars it's a poison ivy maybe if I hide under the lake it won't see me!" and "Face the power of my fists, pitiable rare elite horror!"

Though I do prefer the former to the latter, for what it's worth.

Though both of those ARE hysterically funny, when they happen to anyone elses escort.

Perhaps allowing it to not run from targets more then a certain distance away? (Probably a distance equal to there attack range + a bit?) Minimum distance of 10 at which it stays away from anything immobile? Minimum distance of 10 for immobile too if we have to, but that should solve the drowned by poison ivy problem...
