Why wouldn't getting hit with a meteor stun you? I think I would be pretty stunned if a giant flaming space rock fell on my head, personally

Because it's stupid to take a prodigy that hurts you. Lets not bring in reality into a game mechanics discussion.

There are plenty of talents that do this. If you Fireflash yourself, or Inferno yourself, or Gravity Well yourself, then why shouldn't you be hurt?

Prodigies are not normal talents. There's a reason why meteoric crash was changed to not cause damage to the caster.

Also, there's the fact that you can't actually turn off Meteoric Crash.

As someone that tried running it on a caster(Alchemist) without Spellcraft, before the change...let us say that it was exceptionally impractical and that I nearly killed myself a few times with it. Despite only getting it for High Peak.

But if you have the prodigy, this sort of thing happens to you all the time. Clearly, you should build up an immunity to falling meteors sooner or later.

Another thing i found.
Fire archmage with 5/5 spellcraft and the meteor prodigy.
I did not take damage, but i recived the stun every time a meteor did hit me. quite irritating and annoying
