I'm not sure if this is right, nor if my char will remain this way, but my char was saved to the vault as a dream projection, rather than as itself!

The Emirianne you thought you were playing as was, in fact, merely the dream persona of a butterfly named Emirianne! It's a remarkable twist ending and is totally a feature.
