I happen to play fire-Archmage a lot and very rarely it happens that your own fire hits you.
And if you are unlucky its a fireball that crits for 1200 dmg and thats it.
(yes, I had 5 levels in it, and yes, it was active - log showed it turn off after death)
Very difficult to reproduce, its really very rare.
I'd guess its a float precision problem and 100 > 100 returns true or something

I don't think your own ball spells make a difference between you, NPCs and enemies. It's perfectly normal that you get hit when you're in the radius of the ball, unless you have skilled Spell Shaping.

Spellshaping no longer exists, and has long since been replaced with Spellcraft, which at raw talent level 5 is supposed to grant you a 100% chance of being immune to your own ball spells. Getting hit by your own spells with Spellcraft at 5/5 is most certainly not normal, and if it's happening then it's probably a bug.

Spellcraft gives you a 100% chance to dodge your own spells, but you also get +(luck-50)% chance to dodge spells. If you happen to have less than the default 50 luck (e.g. I think the Pearl you get from Slasul has a luck penalty) then your spells will hav a small chance of hitting you even at 5/5 Spellcraft.
