ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

The game crashed to desktop when I was trying to leave Last Hope after accepting Ugrol's quest, and now I can't enter any shops there.

Ghetto-fix:

Go to your save folder, on windows it would be: C:\Users\username\T-Engine\4.0\tome\save\Neuq\ (assuming Neuq is the char with problems)

Delete zone-town-last-hope.teaz

You should probably make sure the character is saved outside Last hope before you do this...

Also I'm not sure if this fucks up NPC interaction in some regards, might be the case, never got that far after having the problem

I've got the same problem, but the 'crash' was self-induced after I clicked one two many times at the alchemist and refused the necromancer quest (as a necromancer myself ). Options to refuse important quests where there is no drawback whatsoever to just accepting the quest and never doing it should be removed, or something like 'Have you reconsidered my offer?' put in, like with the Cornac quest.
