Disruption Shield + Burning Hex = Instadeath

So, I had an Archmage which was afflicted with Burning Hex, and I then cast Disruption Shield (expecting to take 1 hit of burning hex, but at full mana that wasn't an issue). Instead, it seemed to cause a chain reaction, and I suffered the 75 dmg from burning hex... 72+(that is, 72 times after it had already drained all my mana) times in the next instant, totaling 5405 dmg.

Also, for the record, there was basically a solid pink ring around my lifeless corpse, as disruption shield blew up over and over, instead of the usual scattered pink/purple particles. I wish I'd taken a screen-shot, but I was too sad because I was playing on roguelike, had no blood of life, and that was by far my best archmage. My life for science!

Hum I can not seem to reproduce it, any more info you can give me ?
No errors poping up ?
